The Old Man Musky Fly - Listing is for ONE fly.
I have been musky fly-fishing in Kentucky for over 15 years, and the big 'ole doubles I've been using successfully during that time, started to wear me out this year (2025). As with a lot of folks, when you hit your late 50's, the joints don't work as well, as they once did...
So, I played around and designed a smaller, lighter fly, which would have a lot of movement, and would still have two hooks.
The Old Man Musky Fly was created!
The OMMF is made of: On the back 3/0 Berkeley Fusion Flippin' Hook - two small rooster feathers on the tail, to resemble a tail of a baitfish; then marabou and flash wrapped to the end of the hook. On the front 5/0 Berkeley Fusion Flippin' Hook - two wraps of reverse-tied bucktail and flash, a wrap of marabou, then three rubber legs are attached. On the head, to push a lot of water, two wraps of bucktail are tied in and trimmed to reveal the lead eyes, which are tied into the middle of the wraps. The hooks are connected with an O ring.
Flies average 6" long and have a profile of 4"-5". All of the weight differential in this fly - the back marabou, the bucktail profile, the bucktail head with the lead eyes - all of this makes the fly really move and shake. The first time I used it, I had four eats, caught three, and had several other follows.
The flies I have listed are the ones I tied for my box, with the primary colors that I use. If you would like another color combo, please let me know, and I can probably do that for you.
